My own personal experience with orthodontics began at the age of 7 years when I needed a plate to correct my crooked front tooth. I had several subsequent orthodontic problems which were, for various reasons, not corrected until I was 19 years of age. As a teenager I was painfully conscious of my crooked teeth and I even had an impacted canine tooth which required surgical exposure. Eventually I had the opportunity to have fixed braces treatment while studying at university to become a dentist. The orthodontist who completed my fixed brace treatment was considered one of the ‘grandfathers’ of orthodontics in Australia, but for all his favourable repute, he was a kind and humble man and I will forever be thankful to him for changing my life and invariably my career path. The day I left his office after my first meeting with him, I knew that after dentistry, I would go on to specialize in orthodontics.

In the 21 years since making this decision to become an orthodontist, I have spent many thousands of hours treating patients and studying to be able to offer my patients the best treatment that is available today. This process of learning is one in which there will never be an end, nor should there be, as our understanding and technology within the field of orthodontics continues to evolve, I strive to keep current.

Apart from seeing the beautiful smile that results from the practical aspect of my work, it is my interaction with patients that I find the most rewarding part of my profession and I enjoy getting to know the individual behind the teeth. At my clinic I feel very privileged to be surrounded by exceptional team members who care as much about your or your child’s treatment as I do. Since the completion of my orthodontic treatment, I have not once regretted having straight teeth, and I’m sure you won’t either.
